Wow on linux

How I got ubuntu to run wow and Ventrillo and

I installed the operating system. For most graphics cards your going to have a propriety driver to install, did that

updated All my packages (apps) via my package manager

Then I made 1 simple mistake and it ruined my hole experience I downloaded wine from the package manager. Wasn't the up to date version and gave me massive issues via a C++ error that for the life of me was unsolvable.

So
http://www.winehq.org/download/deb

follow those steps to get your Latest and greatest version of wine. Cleared up a lot of problems I had. The beta version is what I used.

You have to run wine config once so it creates the C: directory so be sure you do that.

From the terminal run (usually in accessories on your application bar)

glxinfo | grep rendering
should output

direct rendering: Yes
if it doesn't say that your sol read no more

insert dvd (if your still using cd's your wrong just wrong however at the bottom there is a link to guide you threw that install)

go to your terminal again type the command bellow be aware that I may be different so if you don't notice the change to the drive Path, map out the path of the drive.

sudo mount -o remount, unhide /dev/cdrom

that command should make the .EXE file visible

this command will start your install However you may just want to right click select wine to open file if your not so happy with your terminal at this point.
wine /media/wowdvd/installer.exe

after the installers go nuts for a day and a half you should get to your login screen, it created a WTF file. Exit wow, find the file and open it for editing add this to the bottom of the command list
SET gxApi "opengl"

I had desktop icons appear and what not and am still not able to get that or the menu icon to work correctly However I just take the time to look up the wow.exe file and launch from there.

The second method and now my preferred (as it was on my win7) was just to download the wow installer. Wow installed without a hitch. Follow the instructions for wine and then download the installer find it right click run via wine, and there your go FTW.

Anyone else have any tips? Here are some of the sources I used to compile this not all of them are useful but I think it's always wise to keep things around for refrence.

So here is another must do if you plan to do anything in wow with yoru ALT button
go to
system/ preference / window
Change the ALT function to super/windows logo.
made my life a hole lot easier in wow

top 5 wtf!

Top 5 WTF seriously!
Star Wars Retold: well this is just terrible, I almost cried. It’s just so sad, a classic series like that, and not to know the basics, it’s just sad.
Leonard Nimoy: this is probably the most disturbing thing I’ve ever seen him do…. Don’t watch it to many times you may have nightmares.
Maxx Brooks: well this guy is pretty cool but the fact that it was on a legitimate news commentary, made me wish I had never ever seen this.
Captain Kirk: well, I really can’t say anything other than, wow. It’s a little weird, and just sad that a show would actually run with this.
Sparta: this little cat is awesome; I’ll never forget this song much to my chagrin, good luck getting this song out of your head!

Gift ideas!

Top 5 rare Christmas gifts
This top 5 is for those impossible people, who may either have everything or are just so damn picky you cannot decide what to get them.
Despair: this site is awesome I myself am going to get the despair mug I like this site because Pessimists can’t help be drawn to their inner nature of malcontent, and at despair they want to share.
V-cube: I have personally wanted a set of these they are a completely redesigned version of the rubiks cube. It’s done by a different company and they seem to work much better. They even look cooler. They make great desk toys, and give you something to do when you get mentally blocked.
Hardcore computers: this one is for those Over the top gifts, it will warp any little computer boy into a pill of sludge if you get them one of these. It might cost as much as a car but Yeah I personally think it’s worth it.
Split Reason: now say you can’t afford to put a mortgage on your house for a new computer, this site will still make that boy toy smitten with you.
Addicted to paintball: well I mean seriously, walk onto the paint ball field with this bad boy and people will weep. Really, it overkill but, hey what’s wrong with that.
Hope you like this top 5 and helps your shopping needs or gives you something to dream about
